The story of Ipswich Grammar School 1863–2013
$33.00
The sesquicentenary history of Queensland’s oldest secondary school.
Description
Ipswich Grammar School was the first grammar school to be established in the colony of Queensland. It was opened with great fanfare in September 1863 by the Governor of Queensland, Sir George Bowen, with 16 students in the first cohort. This book was commissioned for the school’s sesquicentenary in 2013, and tells the school’s story thematically, from the difficulties encountered by the first headmaster and board of governors, to the evolution of sporting competitions and curricula. Notable former students are profiled throughout the book.
The story of Ipswich Grammar School was awarded a Silver Governor’s Award at the Queensland Heritage Awards, 2013, and a Gold Award at the Ipswich Heritage Awards, also in 2013.
